A pivotal role supporting Botswana Predator Conservation’s mission by contributing to field data collection, management, and advancing science-based conservation for threatened and endangered carnivore species, based at a remote research camp near the eastern Moremi Game Reserve.
Key Responsibilities
- Recording behaviour and data in writing, using specialized software, and mobile applications.
- Maintaining remote camera traps.
- Tracking collared study animals using radio telemetry.
- Taking identification photographs of large carnivores.
- Collecting biological samples.
- Maintaining and updating the BPC database and individual identification records using Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Processing and cataloging camera trap footage and identifying individual animals.
- Liaising with tourism operators and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
- Delivering presentations (public speaking) on BPC’s conservation research.
- Assisting with creation and editing of social media content for BPC projects.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree and experience in field research and data collection.
- A clean driver’s license, and basic understanding of vehicle mechanics is an advantage.
- Some knowledge of the bush, 4×4 driving.
- Data collection (written and digital).
- Personal computer skills (e.g., MS Excel, Access, & Word).
- The candidate must be prepared to work flexible hours and overnight in the bush if required.
- Good communication skills and teamwork are essential.
