BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
The Geotechnical Technician will be responsible for working closely with the Geotechnical Engineer in providing full support to the team through, but not limited to, maintaining the database of QA/QC data, mine excavation performance, identification of anomalies, Active Heading Inspections, ScanIT core logging, structural mapping, pre-blasting audits of brow support and close-out of outstanding actions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your key accountabilities include
- Performing underground mining/geotechnical engineering activities including design, development, test duties and responsibilities
- Performing interface activities with underground crews carrying out ground support installation or quality assurance work.
- Analyzing and recommending incorporation of technological advancements in techniques, principles, theories, equipment, and utilization; and
- Collaborating with project engineers and management to determine technical requirements and performance objectives of assigned projects.
- Carrying out routine QA/QC inspections, Task Observations and Active Heading Inspections to ensure all work is being carried out to specification and in accordance with relevant procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or Geology
- Minimum of 2 years mining engineering experience
- Proven exposure to Geotechnical logging and mapping
