What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a housekeeper at a hospitality establishment?

You will clean and service guest rooms, change linens, replenish toiletries, and report any maintenance issues to your supervisor. You may also be responsible for cleaning public areas, doing laundry, and ensuring that hygiene standards meet the company's expectations.

What do employers in Botswana expect in terms of work culture and attitude from housekeeping staff?

Employers value punctuality, respect for guest privacy, and a strong work ethic, as well as the ability to work well in a team. You are also expected to maintain a neat personal appearance and communicate politely with guests and colleagues.

Is there realistic career progression for a housekeeper in Botswana's hospitality sector?

Yes, with experience and additional training you can move up to housekeeping supervisor, floor manager, or executive housekeeper. Some professionals also transition into related areas such as laundry management or front office operations.

What benefits can I typically expect in a full-time housekeeping job in Botswana?

Full-time roles often include paid annual leave, sick leave, and sometimes a pension or provident fund contribution, depending on the employer. Medical aid cover is less common at entry level but may be offered by larger hospitality employers.

How should I apply for a housekeeper position and what do employers look for during hiring?
