The HSE Specialist is responsible for facilitating and promoting the implementation of all Puma Energy Group and Legislated HSE Standards, Policies and procedures on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to Safety practices and procedures so that incidents may be prevented and/or mitigated via the identification, assessment and understanding of hazards in the work place
  • Ensure all Site specific tasks are identified and reviewed on regular basis, with all required Risk Assessments done for all identified site specific tasks.
  • Identification of HSE related training needs (gaps) for all staff on site and then develops Training Programmes to suit these specific needs.
  • Responsible for coordinating induction for new staff, contractors and/or visitors to site.
  • Ensures the annual Task Observation Programme is effectively implemented on site.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance to the requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • He/she is responsible for collection of Safety meeting minutes, analysis and review for implementation of action items.
  • Responsible for planning, execution and recording of Emergency Exercises at the Site.
  • Investigate or arrange for all accidents and near-misses to be reported, investigated, and recommendations to prevent recurrence implemented effectively.
  • Maintain near misses, incidents and accident statistics, analyze trends and track closing out of actions through an HSE management System (Safeguard)
  • Conduct, plan and facilitates regular SHE and Risk Audits in area of responsibility
  • Facilitates the implementation , monitoring and maintenance of HSE management systems by advising on documents control, records control, closure of audits, objectives, targets and programmes as well as site reviews.
  • Generate reports to demonstrate HSE performance and actions required to improve SHE performance

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in a Technical or Business related field.
  • Relevant qualification in Health, Safety and Environmental related field will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 2 years – experience working in an HSE role or related field
  • Work experience in a technical field, including operations work, is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams including senior management and third party negotiations in a fast pace environment
  • HSE Management Systems OHSAS 1800/ISO 14001 competency
  • Microsoft Office
  • Must be knowledgeable in HSSE legislated standards
  • Valid driver’s License
  • Computer skills and good knowledge of fully integrated ERP systems
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
  • Well – developed interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player
  • Organization and time management.
