UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Chinese Studies (Contract Position). Role Purpose: To teach courses on Chinese society, culture, economics and politics, teach undergraduate level courses in Mandarin Chinese, teach research proposal writing, supervise undergraduate students’ projects, and participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research.

Key Responsibilities

(i) teach courses on Chinese society, culture, economics and politics (taught in English) for the Chinese Studies Programme;
(ii) teach undergraduate level courses in Mandarin Chinese for the Chinese Studies Programme;
(iii) teach research proposal and supervise undergraduate students’ projects;
(iv) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research;
(v) and carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Programme Coordinator and Chair.

Requirements

(i) a PhD in Chinese Studies, Teaching Mandarin Chinese as a Second/ Foreign Language, or related field;
(ii) a Master’s degree in Chinese Studies, Teaching Mandarin Chinese as a Second/ Foreign Language or related field;
(iii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Studies, Teaching Mandarin Chinese as a Second/ Foreign Language or related field of at least 2(i) pass/ GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent;
(iv) show evidence of engagement in research.
