The Lecturer in Science Education (Biology Education) is responsible for undertaking independent teaching and research in Biology Education or related areas and makes independent contribution to professional practice and/or expertise. The incumbent will also coordinate or lead the related activities as appropriate to the discipline and undertake administrative activities of the University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Biology Education and other Science Education related courses;
  • Supervise students on internship/teaching practice;
  • Supervise students’ research projects, theses and dissertations at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Develop and update undergraduate and some graduate courses.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student engagement and learning experiences.
  • Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students.
  • Produce research findings based on independent findings.
  • Develop a portfolio of creative and professional work and participate in competitions to showcase contributions.
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals and the implementation of projects.
  • Participate in external research in efforts to boost the standing of the university/ institute as required.
  • Present scholarly articles at national and international seminars and conferences;
  • Assist with organizing faculty/ university symposium and conferences of national importance;
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current in both academic and professional realms locally;
  • Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks;
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders as needed to effectively deliver duties as defined;
  • Comply with relevant regulations and legislations;
  • Write and submit written manuscripts for possible publishing;
  • Undertake any other duties from time to time as assigned by the Head of School/Chairperson of Department.

Requirements

  • A relevant PhD/doctoral degree in Biology Education or related discipline;
  • a Master’s degree in Biology Education or equivalent.
  • a Bachelor’s degree in Biology Education or equivalent with at least second class, first division (2.1) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent;
  • Evidence of engagement in research.
  • Membership or eligible to register with Botswana Qualifications Authority and a relevant and recognized professional body is required;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Understanding of teaching and principles and practices;
  • Understanding research methodologies, tools and principles.
