BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Mechanical Foreman – Process Plant will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities within the processing plant to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of fixed plant equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Coordinating and implementing condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programs across critical plant and equipment.
• Supervising the safe and effective execution of mechanical maintenance activities across the processing plant.
• Ensuring high availability and reliability of fixed plant mechanical equipment through effective preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance.
• Providing technical direction and support to artisans during fault finding, repairs and major maintenance activities.
• Ensuring maintenance work is executed in accordance with approved work orders, procedures, technical standards and OEM requirements.
• Coordinating daily work activities, labour allocation, tools, equipment and contractor support within the section.
• Working closely with Maintenance Planners to ensure work is properly scoped, planned, resourced and ready for execution.
• Ensuring completed work orders and job cards are returned timeously with accurate feedback, failure information and maintenance history.
• Identifying defects, abnormal equipment conditions and recurring failures and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are initiated.
• Supporting Root Cause Analysis and defect elimination activities for significant and repeat equipment failures.
• Participating in the development, review and improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Coordinating and supervising shutdown, major repair and equipment overhaul activities within the area of responsibility.
• Ensuring the plant is properly inspected, tested and handed back to Operations following maintenance activities.
• Ensuring availability and correct use of critical spares, consumables, tools and specialist equipment required for maintenance execution.
• Monitoring workmanship quality and ensuring maintenance defects are corrected before equipment is returned to service.
• Supervising contractors and specialist service providers working within the mechanical maintenance section.
• Maintaining appropriate housekeeping and workplace standards across workshops and operational areas.
• Supporting maintenance cost control through efficient use of labour, spares, contractors and other resources.
• Coaching, mentoring and developing artisans and assistants to improve technical capability, workmanship and maintenance discipline.
• Driving compliance with maintenance schedules, inspections and statutory requirements.
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities to improve safety, plant availability, maintainability and maintenance efficiency.
• Promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring all work complies with MMG safety, environmental and statutory requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate, National Craft Certificate or equivalent mechanical qualification.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial operations.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory, leading hand or Foreman role.
• Strong practical experience maintaining fixed plant equipment in a process plant environment.
• Demonstrated experience on crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps and associated drive systems.
• Experience coordinating shutdowns, major repairs and equipment overhauls.
• Experience supervising artisans, contractors and multidisciplinary maintenance activities.
• Experience in breakdown investigation, fault finding and corrective maintenance.
• Experience using CMMS/EAM systems for work order management and maintenance history.
• Experience in plant commissioning, equipment upgrades or maintenance readiness activities will be advantageous.
