We’re looking for a resourceful and hands-on DevOps Engineer who is passionate about building secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure. This role goes beyond systems administration. You’ll work closely with the Fractional CTO, engineering teams, and business leaders to establish and manage Brastorne’s AWS Cloud environment, automate software delivery, strengthen platform reliability, and support digital products that connect millions of users across Africa. From cloud infrastructure and DevOps automation to AI workloads and telecommunications platforms, you’ll play a critical role in shaping Brastorne’s technology foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage Brastorne’s AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available environments across development, staging, and production.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to standardise infrastructure deployment and configuration management.
  • Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines that automate software build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
  • Monitor application performance, cloud infrastructure, and system health using industry-standard monitoring and observability tools, ensuring high platform availability and rapid incident response.
  • Implement cloud security best practices, vulnerability management, disaster recovery strategies, backup procedures, and access controls to safeguard business-critical systems.
  • Support AI-powered services by maintaining infrastructure for API integrations, asynchronous processing, batch workloads, and emerging AI technologies.
  • Manage cloud networking, DNS, load balancing, SSL/TLS, IAM policies, and other infrastructure components that support Brastorne’s digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with outsourced engineering teams to resolve infrastructure issues, support deployments, improve development workflows, and ensure operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, disaster recovery procedures, and infrastructure standards.
  • Support Mobile Network Operator (MNO) integrations, API connectivity, and platform reliability for USSD and IVR services operating across multiple African markets.
  • Monitor AWS cloud expenditure, optimise infrastructure utilisation, and provide recommendations that improve performance while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Participate in infrastructure planning and capacity management to support new product launches, regional expansion, and future technology initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS cloud services including EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Lambda, Route 53, and CloudFront.
  • Proven experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform (preferred) or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
  • Strong Linux administration, Bash scripting, Docker, and containerisation experience, with working knowledge of Kubernetes or ECS orchestration.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, cloud security principles, monitoring, disaster recovery, and infrastructure resilience.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • 4-6 years’ experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-native applications within AWS environments.
  • Experience implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation in production environments.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications platforms, USSD, IVR, Mobile Network Operator (MNO) integrations, or high-availability digital services will be an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting AI infrastructure, API gateway management, machine learning workloads, or asynchronous processing pipelines will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working with distributed engineering teams, startup environments, or fast-paced technology organisations will be an added advantage.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer certification will be an added advantage.
