MINE DISPATCH SUPERINTENDENT
Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the mine dispatch system to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of equipment and materials. The role focuses on real time coordination of mining activities, production monitoring, and continuous improvement of dispatch processes to support operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily dispatch operations for mining equipment including haul trucks, excavators, loaders, and ancillary equipment
- Manages, maintains & administers mining technical and information management systems
- Ensures mine production data and reports are accurate and presented on time as required
- Ensure production data is kept accurate and availed in a timely manner such as fuel reports, production reports, equipment health, safety statistics
- Ensure production plans are executed efficiently in line with mine schedule and priorities
- Liaises with and manages systems and software service provider relations to ensure value out of procured systems
- Dispatch and ensure accurate real time fleet production performance, and health data from all equipment on the mine site
- Monitor real time production, delays, and equipment utilization using the dispatch system
- Coordinate with mine planning, maintenance, and shift supervisors to resolve operational constraints
- Manage dispatch and fatigue management systems to increase situational awareness by tracking all personnel and equipment in real time
- Control and monitoring and analysis of mining activities and asset performance and make data driven decisions in real time
- Promotes an enabling environment to motivate and encourage the search for and trial of new ideas and technologies to enhance and improve the mining processes and efficiencies
- Develop capacity for competency in mining systems
- Manage individual and team performance
- Lead, train, and mentor dispatch supervisors and dispatchers
- Conduct performance reviews and support skills development within the dispatch team
- Develop shift rosters and ensure adequate coverage for continuous operations
- Ensure employees and contractors adhere to all policies, standards and procedures during the execution of their duties.
- Provide direction in ensuring there is alignment and compliance to the relevant statutory acts The Mines Works and Machinery Act, Explosives Act
- Ensure compliance with site procedures, traffic management plans, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required
- Maintain and optimize the mine dispatch system configuration and data integrity
- Analyze production data, cycle times, and KPIs to identify improvement opportunities
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production and performance reports
- Work with technology and support teams to implement system upgrades and improvements
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in hauling and loading operations
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma Bsc/BEng Qualification in Mining Engineering, Operations Management or a related field
- 5 years or more in a mining environment of which at least a year should be as a Systems Engineer.
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years’ mining operations experience, with dispatch or production control exposure
- Open pit in-field production experience
- Class B driver’s license
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of mine dispatch and fleet management systems
- Ability to analyze production data and make real time decisions
- High attention to safety, detail, and operational discipline
- Ability to work under pressure in a 24-hour operational environment
