BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Mine Surveyor will be responsible for providing accurate and timely survey services to support the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the underground mining and surface operations. The role will be ensuring that mining activities are carried out in accordance with the survey code of practice, approved mine designs, statutory requirements, and company standards by providing reliable survey control, setting out mining layouts, conducting production and volume surveys, and maintaining accurate spatial information for operational planning and reporting.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Surveying underground workings advances as per mine design parameters, stockpiles and dumps for plan updates and volumetric calculations.
- Setting out mining limits to guide mine development and stoping to comply to mine design.
- Performing depletions, analysing and interpreting survey related information to determine total ore flow.
- Validating production information and reconciling with survey measurements for official reporting.
- Determining appropriate survey methods and implementing survey monitoring systems for structural deformation.
- Acquiring and analysing spatial data from the system for integrity, movements of original ground and structural deformation behaviour and informing the relevant stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance to best practice survey standards, data collection, quality control and assurance systems.
- Implementing action items arising from HSEC audits by taking corrective actions on identified deviations.
- Enforcing Company Health, Safety, Environment policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Managing statutory compliance with respect to maintenance of survey records, survey plans, lease boundaries as per legal requirement, Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Surveying, Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 years mine underground surveying experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a fully mechanised underground operation.
- Advanced skills in the use of mine survey software preferably Deswik, CAD.
- Survey project experience is desirable, i.e. decline re-traverses.
