Key Responsibilities
- Community & Wellbeing: Oversee the “Staff Village” life, ensuring high standards for staff housing, nutrition, and recreational activities.
- Talent Scouting: Recruit individuals with “Bush Soul” who can thrive in remote settings and embrace the “safari lifestyle.”
- Learning & Growth: Implement training programs that empower local community members to rise through the ranks, from entry-level positions to senior management.
- Labor Relations & Compliance: Expert on local labor laws, ensuring fair practices, managing contracts, and handling disciplinary matters with empathy and firmness.
- Conflict Resolution: Act as the mediator, listener, and problem-solver who keeps the team cohesive while living in close quarters.
Requirements
- A degree in HR, Industrial Psychology, or Hospitality Management.
- 3–5 years in a People/HR role, ideally within a luxury lodge/hotel, expedition camp.
- Deep understanding of Botswana Labor Relations Act and payroll systems.
- Ability to work on a “cycle” (e.g., 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off) and live on-site full-time.
- The “Social Architect”: High EQ and the ability to read the energy of a room (or a campfire) instantly.
- Resilient & Adaptable: Comfortable with the “bush life”—meaning handling power outages, wildlife in camp, and the isolation of remote living with a smile.
- A Culture Champion: Passionate about transformation, diversity, and inclusion; believes HR is about people, not just paperwork.
- Diplomatic: Able to balance the needs of the owners, the pressure on the guides, and the wellbeing of the housekeeping team.
