The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) seeks the services of a highly motivated,
experienced and self-driven Botswana citizen to fill the position below
tenable in Gaborone, Department of Corporate Services.

VACANCY: Principal Data Protection Officer II.
D3 salary scale
SALARY SCALE: D3 (P293.652 – P323.748) per annum
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in Law/Data Science/lnformation Technology/Enterprise Risk Management Project Management or any other related field from a reputable Institution. Data Protection and or Privacy certification will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
At least four (4) years’ experience in a business environment handling personal data’data comphance/security of data/data processing or related field in Government, Parastatal or Private Sector.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To administer the data Protection Act and carry out the due diligence to ensure adherence to the Act.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Provide guidance in implementation of policies, strategies and guidelines to enable compliance to the data protection ad.
2.Coordinates and dnves continuous evaluation, standardization and improvement of processes, procedures, strategies and solutions on the protection of personal data.
3.Guides in the assessment and alignment of MDA policies, procedures and standards to ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
4.Coordinates data flow storage.
5.Develops and maintains inventory and records of all data processing activities in the Ministry.
6.Protects the rights and freedom of data subjects and thereby ensunng that they are not adversely affected by processing operations.
7.Assesses nsks inherent in the processing of personal data within the Ministry taking into account the nature, scope, context and purposes of processing.
8.Conducts impact assessment on the protection of data.
9.Addresses request and complaints related to processing of personal data.
10.Audits the operations in line with the data protection framework to identify arears for improvement.
11.Identifies areas of non-compliance and makes recommendation on remedial action.
12.Provides training on the Data Protection Act for the Ministry staff.
13.Designs and disseminates publicity tools to educate and sensitise staff on data protection and importance of adhering to its protocols.
14.Prepares reports on matters related to processing of personal data for submission to the Commission or as may be directed to the relevant Authorities.

•Optional Contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and Employee pays 50%).
•Compulsory Contnbution Pension Fund (Government pays 15% and Employee pays 5% for Permanent and Pensionable appointment).
•Housing and upkeep allowance of 309.00/month.
