SAFETY & HEALTH COORDINATOR
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Safety and Health Coordinator will implement all the requisite safety and health systems and protocols to ensure that the operation’s activities comply with best practice safety and health management and standards, promote safety attitudes, safe work practices and environments as well as manage, maintain, and administer the Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be responsible for;
: • Leading a team of Safety Officers to provide safety support services (inspections, inductions, risk assessments, safety programmes, safety training and coaching) to all operating departments;
- Assisting in the identification, development and provision of appropriate health and safety related information, instruction and training;
- Conducting site safety assessments and risk assessments, including in depth auditing, inspections, and gap analysis;
- Overseeing the development of an effective emergency response team; and managing the site risk register;
- Implementing corrective procedures; and carrying out accident and incident investigations to ensure compliance with legal and best practice requirements;
; • Assisting in the development, coordination and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Relevant Degree in Safety Management/Occupational Health & Safety;
; • Minimum of 10 years safety management experience;
: • Emergency response management experience or exposure;
: • Exposure to a high safety culture is essential; and
i • Excellent understanding of safety related legislation and industry trends;
- Proficiency with SHE systems/standards;
- Good communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills;
- Experience in a mining environment is an added advantage.
