BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The SAP PM Specialist will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and technical specialist expertise in the implementation, planning, scheduling and optimisation of maintenance activities through the SAP Plant Maintenance system. The role will act as the site authority and subject matter expert on SAP PM, ensuring that maintenance planning, execution, reporting and asset management processes are effectively integrated within the system.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Acting as the SAP PM Subject Matter Expert for the site, responsible for system administration, governance and continuous improvement.
- Playing a key role in the implementation, configuration, testing, migration, rollout and post-go-live stabilization of SAP PM across the operation.
- Developing and implementing maintenance strategies, preventive maintenance schedules and work management processes within SAP PM.
- Ensuring functional locations, equipment, maintenance tasks, bills of material and spare parts are correctly structured and linked within the SAP asset hierarchy.
- Coordinating the cleansing, preparation, migration and validation of maintenance master data during SAP implementation.
- Supporting User Acceptance Testing, system cutover and operational readiness for SAP PM go-live.
- Developing, reviewing and optimising short, medium and long-term maintenance schedules using SAP PM.
- Conducting ongoing, regular reviews to ensure the integrity of the maintenance history database, in acceptable format.
- Supporting the planning and scheduling of preventive, corrective, shutdown and project maintenance activities to minimise downtime and optimise resource utilisation.
- Ensuring work orders, job plans, labour, materials, services and resource requirements are properly defined and aligned with operational priorities.
- Analysing maintenance plans upon introduction of new equipment and adjust workload and resources accordingly.
- Ensuring preventive maintenance compliance in accordance with approved maintenance strategies, OEM recommendations and asset criticality.
- Reviewing and improving maintenance strategies and SAP PM maintenance plans to address reliability, safety and operational requirements.
- Maintaining the integrity of equipment maintenance history and ensuring maintenance activities are accurately recorded within SAP PM.
- Developing and maintaining maintenance reports, dashboards and KPIs to monitor maintenance performance, compliance, costs and backlog.
- Conducting regular audits of SAP PM data integrity, work order quality and maintenance history.
- Supporting maintenance budgeting, cost allocation, forecasting and expenditure control through SAP PM.
- Coaching and supporting planners, supervisors, engineers, artisans and other users to improve SAP PM capability, maintenance planning discipline and data quality.
- Identifying opportunities and implementing processes for workflow automation, system optimisation and continuous improvement of maintenance processes.
- Leading initiatives to expand SAP PM’s functionality across modules (Work Management, Preventive Maintenance, Inventory, Procurement, and Costing).
- Promoting and maintaining a safety-first culture and ensuring maintenance plans and work orders incorporate applicable safety, statutory and quality requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maintenance Management or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant maintenance, planning, reliability or CMMS/EAM experience.
- Strong practical SAP PM experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industry.
- Experience with SAP PM master data, work management and maintenance plans.
- SAP implementation, migration or system improvement experience will be advantageous.
