Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive Arts and Culture strategy aligned with the University’s vision and mission;
- Manage and coordinate student arts programmes, including music, drama, dance, visual arts, and cultural festivals;
- Promote cultural diversity, inclusion, and heritage preservation within the UB community;
- Organise, promote and oversee major university cultural events, exhibitions, and performances;
- Facilitate and nurture partnerships with local, regional, and international arts and cultural institutions;
- Provide advisory support to student clubs and societies involved in arts and cultural activities;
- Identify funding opportunities and support grant proposals for arts initiatives;
- Manage budgets, procurement, and resources for arts and culture programmes;
- Monitor and evaluate programme effectiveness and prepare reports for management;
- Supervise and mentor staff and student leaders involved in arts programmes;
- Contribute to the development of and implement departmental, sectional and unit level strategies, policies, plans and procedures;
- Collaborate with various departments, faculty, and community partners to create and execute engaging cultural events;
- Oversee arts venues and facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained and equipped for artistic performances and exhibitions;
- Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks;
- Actively engage with the professional community to support and develop expertise in an area of profession;
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor within the role.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Cultural Studies, Performing Arts, Heritage, or a related field;
- A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline will be an added advantage;
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in arts and cultural programme management, three (3) of which should have been at the officer level, preferably within a higher education or public sector environment;
- Demonstrated experience in organising large-scale cultural events.
- Strong knowledge of Botswana’s cultural heritage and contemporary arts sector;
- Excellent organisational and project management skills;
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities;
- Leadership and team management skills;
- Financial management and budgeting competence;
- Effective communication and report-writing skills;
