UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
The Shaft Sinking Operation Supervisor will be responsible for the planning, implementation and execution of individual daily activities to ensure sinking procedure according to safety and quality standards, within budget and required timeframe, and according to procedures. This candidate will report to the Shaft Sinking Site Manager.

Requirements
- BGCSE equivalent or qualification.
- Blasting Certificate of Competence.
- Holder of Shift Supervisor / Foreman certificate.
- Additional certificates in engineering areas will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a foreman in a sinking and underground construction project.
