UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
The Shaft Sinking Project Planner is responsible to assist with the specs and planning, scheduling, progress measuring, progress reporting and general project controls functions as the project needs per the revised and refined or the masterplan status required for the proper control of the project. This candidate will report to the Shaft Sinking Project Manager and the UMS Group Executive for Projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Daily planning and scheduling.
- Preparation of monthly planning in conjunction with management.
- Project management and any other changes to the works to be properly planned, recorded and executed.
- Progress measurement and Reporting and Records management.
- Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance.
Requirements
- Must be a registered PMP (Project Management) Professional.
- Candidates with Loading certificate or certificates in the engineering discipline will have a distinct advantage.
- Advanced MS Project and Excel skills. Primavera certification will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years’ post qualification experience in a Sinking, Construction or Mining environment.
- Sound knowledge of project & cost control principles.
