UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
The Surveyor is responsible to assist with the specialised planning, scheduling, progress measuring, and reporting and general project controls functions for the project, along with the related administrative and supportive duties required for the proper control of the underground sinking project.

Key Responsibilities
- Daily planning and scheduling.
- Preparation of monthly planning in conjunction with management.
- Setting out and survey datum management.
- Construction of as built surveys.
- Survey control of ongoing excavations.
- Scope management and any other changes to the works to be properly planned, recorded, and executed.
- Progress measurement & reporting and records management.
- Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance.
Requirements
- Relevant diploma + certificate with a minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience in an underground sinking / construction environment.
- Sound knowledge of computer aided software and survey instruments.
- Advanced MS Project and Excel skills.
- Sound knowledge of project & cost control principles.
