SHAFT SINKING TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR – MECHANICAL – Ums Botswana 184 views

UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.

The Shaft Sinking Technical Supervisor – Mechanical will be responsible for planning and supervising the maintenance, installation, breakdown, deployment and maintenance of mechanical production equipment and supporting infrastructure to optimise machine/ plant rate availability to achieve production targets within the scope of occupational health and safety, quality and financial requirements. This candidate will report to the Shaft Sinking Project Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in mechanical field (e.g. Fitter and Turner/Millwright/Rigger etc.)
  • Additional certificates in other mechanical areas will be an advantage.
  • 5 years’ experience as a Foreman in a Sinking and Underground Construction Project and see experience on other in the same environment.
  • Experience in decline mine/shaft and sinking operations, as well as exposure to the legal requirements and safety and certifications is valuable.
  • Experience in construction, hydraulics and winders is ethics.
  • Knowledge of shaft sinking and health & safety standard and regulations.
