UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
The Training Officer is responsible for identifying training and development needs as well as developing and coordinating the delivery of training initiatives to meet Company’s strategic objectives. This candidate will report to the Project Safety Manager and the UMS Group HR Manager.

Requirements
- Recognized Trade Certificate or Blasting Certificate.
- Certified Assessor or moderator. Registration with the Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) as a Trainer & Assessor will be an added advantage.
- HIRA – Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Certificate.
- First Aid Level 1 Certificate (NQF Level 3), ISO 45001:2018 SHE Management System.
- Basic Environmental (ISO 14001) Systems and Auditing Certificates.
- At least 5 years’ post qualification experience as a Training or SHEQ Officer in a Sinking / Shaft Sinking Project.
