Reporting to the SHEA Manager, the incumbent will assist legal appointees with advice in the implementation of processes that ensure that all employees, contractors and visitors under their care, equipment/property and the environment are free from harm.

Job Description

  • Develops occupational health and safety (OHS) programmes in consultation with the line manager, in accordance with best practice, ISO 45001 and other applicable statutory requirements.
  • Prepares relevant daily, weekly and monthly OHS reports on health and safety activities for submission to the line manager.
  • Provides input into the development of the safety initiatives/campaigns and facilitates the implementation therein to improve safety performance of the Mine. Plans for resources, assigns roles to the team, monitors progress and produces progress reports.
  • Conducts inspections within the department to assess health and safety risks. Recommends mitigating actions to remedy the risks identified and develops objectives to mitigate high risks areas.
  • Facilitates safety training needs identification for the department and the development of training modules. Identifies possible external service provides to facilitate the training and carries out checks to confirm quality of training to be provided.  Evaluates post training and makes recommendations on improvements for future training.
  • Contributes to the reviewing and updating of contractors’ site rules and regulations manual on annual basis.
  • Coordinates the contractor onboarding through carrying out hazard studies to plan for construction works.
  • Coordinates the implementation of Emergency Preparedness procedures for the department.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate must be/ have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, Environmental Management or a related equivalent field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in a SHE role, with demonstrable experience in construction, open pit mining, and process plant environments.
  • Proven experience in implementing and managing ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) systems.
  • Formal training and applied experience in ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method) or a similar root cause analysis technique.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across a diverse and multi-disciplinary workforce.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Valid Class B Driver’s License.
