Reporting to the Mine Captain, the Shift Boss is responsible for supervising all shaft-related operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of people, materials, and ore/waste between surface and underground workings. The role ensures operational excellence through effective workforce coordination, risk management, and adherence to established mining standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise daily underground shaft operations
- Conduct pre-shift briefings, allocate tasks, and monitor workforce performance
- Inspect work areas for hazards and take immediate corrective action where necessary
- Maintain accurate shift reports, including production data, incidents, and personnel matters
- Organize and coordinate teams, manage shift scheduling, and ensure optimal manpower deployment
- Safety, health and environmental compliance
Requirements
- BGCSE equivalent qualification
- Shift Boss Certificate of Competency
- Valid Underground Blasting Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underground mining operations, with at least 3 years in shaft operations
- Proven experience in underground production supervision
- Knowledge of mining standards and operating procedures
- Valid Class B Driver’s License
