JOB PURPOSE:
To provide complex underwriting expertise to the Technical Underwriting Department by supporting the Sales Department in the fulfilment of client and customer needs, to assess and evaluate insurance risks, determining appropriate coverage, and ensuring that underwriting decisions align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pricing Business
- Adhere to organizational underwriting and pricing guidelines to ensure competitive and sustainable outcomes.
- Utilize underwriting expertise to secure appropriate risks & profitable new business within delegated authority levels.
Sales and Broker Partnerships
- Collaborate with Sales to support marketing activities and maintain broker relationships.
- Engage with brokers on market appetite, submission quality, profitability, service standards, and potential enhancements.
Market and Product Expertise
- Promote company products, stay informed of industry trends, and competitor developments.
- Reviews policy wordings and coverage ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, absence of any ambiguities, scope within treaty coverage and company philosophies, competitive, relevant to channel and target market.
- Collaborate with the actuarial department to formulate rating structures.
Technical Support and Standards
- Provide technical support and resolve technical referrals.
- Contribute to risk acceptance standards and guidelines.
Leadership
- Participate in underwriting training and development programs.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering accountability, agility, and excellence.
- Sound communication and Influence
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The right candidate should have a Degree in Commerce, Economics, Insurance and Risk, Finance/Accounting or related field.
EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent should have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role. Involment [sic] in middle management. They should have a strong understanding of insurance products, underwriting principles, risk assessment techniques and reinsurance.
