The University is looking for qualified and experienced individuals for the below-stated positions. The positions are based at the BIUST Campus, Palapye.

The successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed-term contract of up to five (3) years.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide high-level technical expertise and support for the teaching and research activities of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering.
  • To be responsible for the management, care, and maintenance of the department’s inventory of geophysical equipment.
  • To perform basic repairs, troubleshoot technical faults, and liaise with external suppliers for more complex equipment servicing.
  • To lead the preparation, deployment, and recovery of equipment for field courses and research projects for undergraduate and postgraduate students, ensuring they are conducted safely and effectively.
  • To provide practical training and supervision to students on the safe and effective operation of geophysical equipment and software.
  • To provide specialist advice on survey design, methodology, and data acquisition best practices to support research proposals and projects.
  • To assist with geophysical data management, archiving, and preliminary processing.

Requirements

  • At least a Diploma in Geophysics, Geology or related field from a recognised institution
  • Minimum of 5-7 years work experience.
  • A valid CLASS-B manual driving license.
  • Able to complete multiple assignments, maintain quality, work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • Adhere to HR policies, practices and procedures, and conform to professional standards and ethics.
  • Be a team player and demonstrate ability to work independently and without much close supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respectful of sensitive situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English – both written and verbal.
  • Professionalism and adherence to good work ethics (integrity, dependability, punctuality, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn and improve on a continual basis
  • Resilience and personal drive, self-motivation
