JCHX Mining Management Co., Ltd. (JCHX) has been awarded a five-year contract for underground mining services at MMG’s Khoemacau Copper Mine at Toteng, Zone 5, Botswana. JCHX, a global mining contractor with nearly 30 years of experience, will be responsible for the development and operation of the underground mine. We seek applications from suitably experienced and qualified individuals for the above position to be based at Toteng, Zone 5.

Position Summary: The Trainee HSE Officer is responsible for implementing, maintaining and monitoring the Safety & Health Management System, to ensure compliance with Mine procedures, Standards and Legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain health & safety policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of underground facilities, equipment and processes to identify hazards, risks and non-compliance issues
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on S&H matters to management, employees and stakeholders
  • Maintain records and documentation of S&H activities, inspections, logging of incidents, and corrective actions/verifications
  • Promote a culture of safety & health and continuous improvement throughout the organization
  • Conduct incident/accident investigations
  • Facilitate daily pre-shift meetings

Requirements

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in an HSE role (preferably similar industry)
  • Must have full knowledge of applicable OHS Management Systems
  • Recognized Incident Investigation Course (ICAM ideally)
  • Knowledge and Awareness of relevant Botswana OHS statutes
  • Blasting License (advantage)
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. NEBOSH/IOSH) an added advantage
  • Driver’s License (Class B)
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Strong communication & reporting skills
