Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd owns the Karowe Diamond Mine in Letlhakane, which operates an Open Pit Mine and is now transitioning into the Underground operation. The envisaged underground operation is currently undergoing construction in which two vertical shafts (Production and Ventilation) are being sunk and will be followed by lateral development and subsequent ore extraction.
To this end, Lucara Botswana invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position, tenable in Letlhakane, to be part of this exciting underground mine development.
Reporting to the Senior Underground Project Manager, the Underground Engineering Manager, oversees the engineering design, construction, maintenance and project management functions for the Underground Project, with specific responsibility ensuring engineering best practices (reviewing and approving designs), engineering projects (services and associated infrastructure), contractor management, budgeting, staff development and compliance with all statutory requirements as well as adherence to company policies and procedures.

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Postgraduate qualification in Business or Engineering Management
- Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years post qualification experience with proven track record of managing mine development and construction projects in an underground environment, five (5) of which should have been at a Senior Engineering Level.
- Relevant technical experience in winder installation and commissioning with particular emphasis on conveyance installation and winder automation.
- Ability to review and influence designs for underground mobile equipment, underground mine dewatering as well as diamond ore primary processing infrastructure. Must have technical and operational knowledge of such equipment to guarantee equipment operability.
- Strong engineering project management and ability to manage interfaces between different packages to achieve project deadlines
- Ability to manage and implement asset management systems with emphasis on LCC management to optimize project schedule and asset value in compliance to regulatory and industry expectations.
- Registration with Engineering Registration Board (ERB).
