Maintenance Manager

Location: Chobe – Kasane

I am currently seeking the a Maintenance Manager to join a luxury 5* lodge, working in a remote bush environment in Northern Botswana.


Scope of working environment:

The Maintenance dept. has a staff compliment of 19 & consists of the following sub-departments. Grounds, Pluming & Builders, Carpentry, Electrical & Workshop. From time to time casual labour is also used with projects. Maintenance revolves around a 96 bedded lodge with a staff complement of 130, 6 boats with outboard motors and electric motors, 1 Big 40 seater boat with two Yamaha outboard motors, 4 Electric game viewing vehicles and 8 Land cruisers, 2 Trucks, 1 Tractor, 1 Rolls Royce 500kw standby generator, boreholes, Laundry with an assortment of washers dryers & industrial Irons, Main Kitchen, Refrigeration, 600 square meter Solar power system, Staff & Management accommodation. In addition to the above, the maintenance needs of  small lodges in the group have to be seen to as well.

Job scope & Responsibilities

The maintenance of all the above mentioned equipment, buildings & Lodges . Managing the maintenance staff evectively & efficiently. Ensure effective control of spares & all maintenance consumables. Maintain all service records accurately & implement additional controls where necessary as directed by the General Manager. Implement a job card system for all sub departments. Maintain a high standard of safety & cleanliness in workshop & all maintenance areas. Will be held financially accountable, need to ensure that all work is executed in a cost effective manner.


Ensure minimum down time on any operating equipment, working in shifts where necessary as directed by the General Manager. Manage ongoing renovations of buildings, upgrading of facilities & new construction projects, at different locations in Botswana & neighbor countries under the guidance of the General Manager.


Qualifications & attributes

The successful candidate must have the relevant formal qualifications in Diesel & Petrol Mechanics with auto electrical experience. Preference will be given to applicants that have in addition to the fore mentioned formal Electrical and/or Refrigeration qualifications. Basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft Word & Excel, basic bricklaying & construction skills. A minimum of 6 years relevant working experience is a prerequisite


It is imperative that the applicant has strong organizational skills, capable of multi tasking & have an uncompromising approach getting tasks done efficiently, in minimum time & setting high standards under the guidance of the General Manager. Have strong Leadership skills & have the capability to motivate subordinates & maintain a positive working environment under pressure. The successful candidate must have initiative be methodical & be a self motivated individual.
