Vacancy: Strategy and Risk Manager (tenable in Gaborone)
Main purpose of the job:
To drive the strategic planning process, provide implementation support to management and coordinate all projects to meet the objectives of Legal Aid Botswana (LAB).
To manage and oversee the effectiveness and compliance with corporate policies, procedures, risk processes and corporate governance to ensure an effective control environment that enhances efficiency, mitigates potential risk and protects the assets of LAB. To coordinate the risk management functions to ensure optimal usage and security of assets in the organisation.
Duties/ Responsibilities
• Coordinates the strategic planning process within LAB.
• Liaises with management on implementation of policies, strategies and Board resolutions.
• Monitors, evaluates and reports on the implementation of LAB plans by all Directorates to ensure successful attainment of LAB objectives.
• Reviews Government’s development plans, priorities, policies and strategy papers such as Vision 2036; extracts strategies which impact on the role of LAB and develops detailed scenarios from which LAB can adopt corporate strategies.
• Monitors and reviews LAB’s services and makes recommendations for the development of products and services to promote provision of legal aid.
• Ensures implementation of all Board and management action points to ensure project compliance to executive resolutions.
• Provides overall policy advice and direction for the design, development and operation risk management processes and systems to provide an optimum control environment for operations and services.
• Reviews the effectiveness of internal control systems and procedures and makes recommendations to protect the assets of the organisation.
• Facilitates performance audits to assess the impact of LAB policies and programs in achieving its mandate.
• Ensures identification of operational compliance issues, appropriately follows up and reports on implementation of relevant requirements.
• Communicates sound advice to management and staff in support of the development of relevant operational plans and projects.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with all management and staff to promote required buy-in on executive directives.
• Keeps management fully informed about strategic issues and priorities requiring their attention in a timely and professional manner.
• Undertakes any other lawful tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Management, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Risk Management or an equivalent alternative business qualification; preferably with a Project Management qualification/certification
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English
Work experience:
• A minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years’ experience in a strategic planning and management role, including project management or risk assessment and management within a highly regarded business environment.

Remuneration: Attractive salary which includes benefits (P492, 900.00) per annum
Leave: 24 working days per annum
