Advocacy and Policy Program Officer – Gaborone – Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA)

The Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA) is looking to fill the position of Advocacy and Policy Program Officer. BOFWA is a leading national non-governmental organization working in the field of sexual and reproductive health information and services and a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). It has five branches across the country and has built strong partnerships with Community Based Organizations, other non –governmental organizations and groups of vulnerable underserved populations. BOFWA has pioneered and is continually expanding provision of information and services to Adolescents and young people as well as other vulnerable and underserved populations.

This is a national position to be based in Gaborone and is to provide leadership in the development and implementation of Advocacy campaigns at both National and District levels in Kanye, Gaborone, Mochudi, Francistown and Maun.

The project will be for a period of a year. The Officer will be reporting to the Project Manager, the holder of this position will also take the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of advocacy and communications campaigns working in close collaboration with key stakeholders including media, academia and community stakeholders to create an enabling environment for improved access to SRHR services.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

• Applications are invited from individuals with an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, social sciences, development studies, journalism, public health, law or a related field of work, or a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience

OR

• A first university degree in communications, social sciences, development studies, journalism, public health, law or a related field of work in combination with 2 years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

The Officer will need to have advanced technical knowledge/ understanding of advocacy and communication as well as sound programme development and management skills, must be an excellent communicator, planner and also able to form good, trusting relationships with BOFWA partners.
