VACANCY: COORDINATOR – RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT – E 2 X1 POST
A talented, experienced, proactive, innovative, and self-driven citizen of Botswana is sought to fill the above-mentioned position in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism – Department of Corporate Services – Gaborone.
- Directs and coordinates the revision of environmental sector transformation policies and strategies.
- Undertakes research designed to identify opportunities for improving sustainable environmental utilization management.
- Monitors implementation of MoU and bilateral agreements.
- Coordinates the development of monitoring and evaluation systems for sustainable environmental utilization and management.
- Establishes and maintains up to date data on key sectoral economic aggregates and notes significant variations to inform decision making.
- Designs strategies to ensure and enforce the ethical code of research in the sector.

Salary Scale: E2 (P373,152 – P388,236 per annum)
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum.
BENEFITS
- Employment is on contract terms. Upon satisfactory completion of the contract gratuity at the rate of 30% of the total amount of the salary earned for the duration of the contract will be payable.
- Optional contributory Medical aid scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%)
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological or Environmental Sciences or any other related qualification. A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of fourteen (14) years relevant experience, two (2) years of which should have been served as Chief Research Officer – D1 in Botswana Government, or equivalent position and duties in the Private Sector and Parastatal Organisations.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To coordinate research designed to identify opportunities for improving sustainable environmental utilization management.
Key Performance Areas
- Coordinate the assessment and approval of research permits for all research activities undertaken under the auspices of the Ministry.
- Interprets research, monitoring and evaluation results to various stakeholders to inform policy, programme and project design and implementation.
- Provides advice on environmental policy research issues and strategies needed to achieve the set goals for sustainable environmental utilization and management.
- Represents the Ministry at various fora on issues relating to environmental policy, statistics and monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the interests of the ministry are addressed.
- Directs and coordinates the revision of environmental sector transformation policies and strategies.
