BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION

The Artisan Rigger will be responsible for equipment maintenance across all MMG Khoemacau Mining sites, ensuring optimal plant availability and reliability to achieve production targets. The incumbent Rigger will be appointed as the Mechanic in Charge in terms of Regulation 14(2) of the Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations, to assist the Mechanical Engineer in the supervision, installation, examination, testing and maintenance of mechanical equipment in the fixed plant.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your key accountabilities include

  • Identifying and inspecting lifting equipment, rigging gear, and tools prior to use and removing defective equipment from service.
  • Planning, executing, lifting and rigging operations in accordance with approved lift plans, risk assessments, and statutory requirements.
  • Selecting, inspecting, and correctly using appropriate lifting equipment and rigging configurations for assigned tasks.
  • Guiding and signalling crane operators to ensure safe and controlled lifting operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, lift plans, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Completing job cards, inspection records, and lifting documentation accurately and timeously.
  • Complying with all applicable legal requirements, company policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct.
  • Inspecting lifting equipment, rigging gear, and tools prior to use and removing defective equipment from service.
  • Identifying unsafe conditions and behaviours during lifting and rigging activities and implementing preventative and corrective measures.
  • Providing on-the-job guidance and coaching to assistants and junior personnel involved in rigging and lifting activities.
  • Interfacing with maintenance, operations, engineering, and other departments to coordinate lifting activities and minimise operational disruptions.
  • Ensuring work is executed in line with planned schedules, quality standards, and operational requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE

  • National Craft Certificate in Rigging or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification in provision of rigging/ craneage services for mobile and fixed plant maintenance in a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • A successful completion of the Artisan in Development Programme will be an added advantage.
