Job Purpose

To fabricate and weld metal and carry out on site welding repairs and installations in accordance with set specifications and safety standards. ​

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities


Performs a variety of standard tests that require moderate judgment.

Data Collection & Analysis

Selects appropriate data from information provided by others and inputs that data into spreadsheets or standard formats.


Works within current compliance processes, systems and procedures and reports shortcomingsCarries out periodic inspections of fabrication workshop equipment and tools to make sure that defects are corrected.


Performs simple facilities tasks by following established procedures to support others. Prepares drawings for minor metal construction work for approval by the Supervisor.​

Improvement / Innovation

Implements improvements and carries out simple change management tasks by following established procedures to support others.

Installation, Maintenance and Repair

Performs standard installation, maintenance and repair activities under detailed guidance, while also troubleshooting basic technical and/or operational problems by applying previously defined matching solutions. Marks out, fabricates, welds and paints metal works from drawings in accordance with standards and specifications. Repairs metal works and manufactured equipment on site.

Operating Machine or Equipment

Operates various machines, adjusting work sequence and/or other variables to improve efficiency. Marks out, fabricates, welds and paints metal works from drawings in accordance with standards and specifications.​


Performs relatively simple testing and quality assurance tasks.

Safety, Health and Environment

Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.



​A recognized National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Welding and Fabrication.​​​


​A minimum of 1 year post qualification experience in maintenance and operations environment. As well as basic experience of coordinating the work of others.​​





Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on creating relevant, lucid and effective reports.
