The Backfill Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the stability and safety of underground mining operations. The role holder will ensure that mine backfilling activities are supported with appropriate plans and schedules which are then followed and monitored to provide for safe and efficient mine production.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing subject matter expertise for all operational and design aspects of paste filling
- Inputting into mine planning to ensure sequence’s and backfill types are appropriate
- Optimising availability and utilisation of the backfilling system
- Managing the construction works for a new backfill system
- Drafting scopes of work for capital projects required during backfill system upgrades
- Designing and implementing appropriate backfilling system
- Undertaking QA/QC analysis alongside Geotechnical Engineers to ensure suitability for paste re-development and adjacency mining
- Coordinating between backfill plant and mining operations to meet a backfill schedule in relation to mining production requirements
- Assisting the UG Manager to manage contractors and mine employees in SOW implementation and interactions with commercial team and suppliers during implementation of SOW
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Mining/Civil Engineering
- 5 years+ direct experience with mine backfill systems
- 7 years of industry experience
- A valid class B driver’s license and good driving record is a must for all positions.
