• CHIEF SURVEYOR

The positions are based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland, therefore, you must have the enthusiasm and interest to work in a remote location and in a multicultural work environment.

CHIEF SURVEYOR

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Reporting to Technical Services Manager, the Chief Surveyor will be responsible for delivering all survey requirements to the underground mining and surface operations, ensuring production survey plans are updated and executed according to short and medium-term production planning requests to achieve the mine’s short-term targets.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for:

• Coordinating all survey activities within the mine operation.
• Establishing surveying procedures and managing survey systems and data to ensure mine production requirements are delivered to agreed standards and timelines.
• Compiling month-end production figures for purposes of reconciliation.
• Managing surface survey infrastructure and equipment.
• Completing all surface related survey requirements.
• Managing systems for the lay-out and maintenance of survey reference marks, both on the surface and underground, for the control of drilling, development, services and production activities.
• Monitoring mine surveying systems and performance measures and formulating alternatives and improvements to systems and methods.
• Managing the survey requirements for declines, roadways, stopes, buildings, stockpiles, waste dumps and all related infrastructure both on surface and underground.
• Adhering to and improving procedures and practices for survey data collection.
• Assuming accountability of all survey measurements in all departments.
• Ensuring that survey data is compiled into correct formats and grid reference systems.
• Conducting spot checks and regular audits to ensure data accuracy.
• Ensuring that data is appropriately and safely stored in data bases and filing systems; and
• providing as-built surveys for all excavations and infrastructure.
• Planning for the preparation and submission of statutory survey plans so that required submission deadlines are met.
• Maintaining compliance with standards stipulated within the Botswana Mines, Works, Quarries and Machinery Act (MWQM).
• Establishing and implementing systems, processes and procedures to ensure quality management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mine Surveying or equivalent.
• 15+ years’ mine surveying experience, with experience in senior survey roles in underground mine surveying.
• Surface survey experience essential including the surveying of services and stockpile surveying.
• At least 5 years’ experience with fully mechanized sub level open stoping.
• Experience with backfilling operations is desirable.
• Experience with managing underground mining contractors and producing payment related quantity survey reports.
• Experience with producing plans and sections for various governmental stakeholders.
• Survey project experience is desirable, i.e. decline re-traverses;
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage surveyor groups and liaising with stakeholders.
• Advanced track record in the use of mine survey software.
• You must have thorough knowledge of statutory survey requirements, including for local, regional, and national governmental bodies.
