Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd is a Soda Ash and Salt producing Company situated at Sua Pan in Botswana, approximately 180 km by tarred road northwest of Francistown. The Company employs over 500 employees of which close to 300 are unionised. Employees and their families live in Sowa Town, about 20 km from the plant site. The town boasts of recreational facilities, which include restaurant, tennis courts, squash court, swimming pool and golf course. There is also an excellent English medium pre-primary, primary and secondary school as well as public primary and junior secondary schools.

CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

We are looking for a highly capable and versatile Civil/Structural Engineer to oversee the design, development and construction of a wide range of projects of the built environment from conception through to completion as well as to maintain infrastructure such as plant structures, roads, an airport, buildings, sewage treatment plant, dams, water supply and drainage systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing the planning and design stages of civil engineering projects.
• Performing due diligence on the impact and feasibility of new construction sites and projects.
• Overseeing all project stages from preliminary layouts to final engineering designs.
• Performing cost estimations and preparing project budgets.
• Co-ordinating soil testing processes to ensure soils have correct bearing capacities for the structures to be put on them.
• Testing gravels, asphalt, concrete, steel and other building materials to be applied in projects to be certain they comply with standards and specifications.
• Preparing work schedules and allocating resources, as well as supervising contractors.
• Ensuring that civil engineering projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Inspecting completed projects for compliance with industry codes, specifications and safety standards.
• Coordinating/ carrying out plant structural integrity assessments and effecting required interventions to maintain a fit for purpose and safe plant.
• Specifying and effecting repairs, maintenance and replacement of infrastructure to optimise life cycle costs.
• Participating in technical reviews to ensure clarity and completeness of specifications.

• Providing specialist technical guidance and advice to various stakeholders as necessary.
• Documenting processes and presenting project progress updates to stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registration with ERB as Professional Engineer.
• 8 years professional experience in a relevant field.
• Proficiency in project management as well as civil/structural engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar.
