JOB SUMMARY

Are you a budding chef with a passion for the outdoors and a taste for adventure? We’re seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our team at a stunning safari lodge and campsite. This is a unique opportunity to hone your culinary skills in a breathtaking natural environment, far from the hustle and bustle of city life.

You will be an integral part of our small, close-knit kitchen team, working under the guidance of our Head Chef to prepare and deliver exceptional dining experiences for our guests. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, is a quick learner, and is excited by the challenge of creating high-quality food using fresh, often locally-sourced, ingredients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the kitchen team with daily food preparation, cooking, and plating.
• Learn and master a range of dishes, from traditional local cuisine to international favourites.
• Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and food safety in the kitchen.
• Manage stock, assist with inventory, and ensure ingredients are stored correctly.
• Support the overall kitchen operation and contribute to a positive and collaborative team atmosphere.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

• Experience in a camp, lodge, or similar hospitality setting is a significant advantage.
• Creativity and a willingness to learn and experiment with new ingredients and techniques.
• An interest in sustainable and local food sourcing.
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic.

REQUIREMENTS

• Prior experience in a kitchen role, ideally as a Commis Chef or a similar entry-level position.

• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to new challenges.
• Flexibility to work in a remote location with a schedule that may include weekends and holidays.
