CONTROL AND INSTRUMENTATION (C&I) SUPERINTENDENT – Mmg / Khoemacau Copper Mining 1453 views

The Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Superintendent will be responsible for leading, planning, and optimising control, instrumentation, and process automation systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Driving integration of control systems and software solutions, while overseeing maintenance, commissioning, and digital performance to support production targets and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and coordinating maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and automation infrastructure.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives by analysing system performance data and identifying optimization opportunities.
  • Managing and supporting software systems, including SCADA, PLC, and plant information systems, ensuring availability and integrity.
  • Driving digitalisation initiatives, including data integration, reporting systems, and process optimisation tools.
  • Coordinating and supervising system upgrades, modifications, and new installations for both instrumentation and software platforms.
  • Aligning software performance with plant operational requirements and production targets.
  • Developing and maintaining maintenance strategies, schedules, and documentation for all C&I and software systems.
  • Collaborating and aligning with production, engineering, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems and software solutions.
  • Overseeing Leading and managing all Control & Instrumentation (C&I) and Software personnel to ensure optimal plant performance and reliability.
  • Monitoring and controlling departmental budgets, resources, and contractor performance to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Coaching and developing team members, including the Software Coordinator, to build technical capability and succession readiness.
  • Promoting compliance to safety, health, environmental, and regulatory standards across C&I and software operations.
  • Conducting daily progress reporting, monitoring site developments, and escalating issues to the Plant Manager and or to MMG Management as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree or National Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in control and instrumentation within a mining or heavy process plant
  • At least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience managing PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems
  • Experience overseeing automation, software systems, or digital projects
