The Credit and AML Officer is responsible for assessing creditworthiness of clients, monitoring loan portfolios, and ensuring compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. This role safeguards the institution against credit risk and financial crimes while promoting responsible lending practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate loan applications and conduct credit risk assessments.
- Verify client information and financial documents for accuracy.
- Recommend approval or rejection of credit applications based on risk analysis.
- Monitor loan performance and identify early warning signs of default.
- Maintain accurate credit records and ensure adherence to lending policies.
- Implement and enforce AML policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and customer due diligence (CDD).
- Monitor transactions for suspicious activity and escalate as necessary.
- Prepare and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to relevant authorities.
- Stay updated on AML laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Prepare periodic credit and compliance reports for management.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Educate staff on AML and credit risk management practices.
- Support internal audits and compliance reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CAMS, ICA, or credit risk certification) are an advantage.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in credit analysis and AML compliance, preferably in microfinance or banking.
- Strong knowledge of AML regulations and credit risk principles.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and financial analysis tools.
