The Credit and AML Officer is responsible for assessing creditworthiness of clients, monitoring loan portfolios, and ensuring compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. This role safeguards the institution against credit risk and financial crimes while promoting responsible lending practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate loan applications and conduct credit risk assessments.
  • Verify client information and financial documents for accuracy.
  • Recommend approval or rejection of credit applications based on risk analysis.
  • Monitor loan performance and identify early warning signs of default.
  • Maintain accurate credit records and ensure adherence to lending policies.
  • Implement and enforce AML policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and customer due diligence (CDD).
  • Monitor transactions for suspicious activity and escalate as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to relevant authorities.
  • Stay updated on AML laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Prepare periodic credit and compliance reports for management.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Educate staff on AML and credit risk management practices.
  • Support internal audits and compliance reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CAMS, ICA, or credit risk certification) are an advantage.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in credit analysis and AML compliance, preferably in microfinance or banking.
  • Strong knowledge of AML regulations and credit risk principles.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and financial analysis tools.
