Babereki SACCOS was established as a result of Botswana Public Employee Union (BOPEU) Congress resolution and was duly registered in accordance with the Co-operatives Act, 2013 on 06th October 2015. It draws membership across Botswana. It runs in accordance with the Co-operatives Act and the Bye-Laws as set by the members and approved by the Co-operatives Development Director. It also has set policies that guide the day-to-day operations of the Society Babereki SACCOS invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, self-driven and results-oriented citizens of Botswana for the position of Credit Officer. This is a new role within the Society and is intended to strengthen credit control, member account administration, Babereki SACCOS Funeral scheme administration and service delivery.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Credit Officer will be Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the successful candidate will work closely with the Loans Officer to support member account management, collections, arrears follow-up, and the accurate capture of Babereki Funeral Scheme clients. The role calls for a professional who is committed to member service, sound record management, confidentiality, and adherence to the Society’s policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture and maintain accurate records for new Funeral Scheme members and related account information.
  • Monitor member contributions, premium payments, loan-related repayments, and account balances.
  • Follow up on arrears and overdue accounts in line with approved collection procedures.
  • Prepare arrears, collections, and account status reports for management.
  • Attend to member queries relating to balances, payments, statements, and Funeral Scheme records.
  • Reconcile member accounts and ensure correct posting of receipts and remittances.
  • Work closely with the Loans Officer on member verification, recoveries, and account follow-up.
  • Maintain proper records, updated registers, and confidentiality of member information.
  • Support the continuous improvement of credit control and Funeral Scheme administration processes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Credit Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in a SACCO, microfinance institution, insurance environment, or Funeral Scheme administration will be an added advantage.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience with loan management systems, accounting systems, or member administration systems will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 year’s relevant credit management experience in financial services being: credit control, debt collection, member accounts administration, or a related role.
  • Valid Class B Driver’s license
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good numerical, reconciliation, and record management skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to follow up consistently on arrears and outstanding balances.
  • Good customer service orientation and ability to work well with members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet reporting deadlines.
