CUSTOMS CLEARANCE AGENT/ CLERK
Aramex Botswana is looking for an experienced and solutions-driven Customs Clearance Agent to join our dynamic express logistics team. This is a pivotal role ensuring seamless cross-border trade through precise customs compliance, timely clearance and expert navigation of government regulations. If you have a sharp eye for detail, thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment and bring hands-on experience in customs brokerage, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
– Prepare and submit import/export documentation (e.g. Bill of Entry) with accuracy and in full compliance with BURS customs regulations.
– Classify goods using harmonised tariff codes and calculate duties and applicable charges.
– Track and respond to shipment pre-alerts via email and telephone.
– Ensure all shipments are cleared promptly to prevent penalties, storage or delays.
– Liaise with shipping agents, freight forwarders and customs officers to facilitate cargo movement.
– Stay up to date with changes in import/export laws, tariffs and policies and apply them correctly to clearance processes.
– Confirm documentation accuracy (clearing instructions, invoices, permits, etc.) before submission.
– Resolve clearance bottlenecks proactively even after hours, on weekends or public holidays when necessary.
– Act as a compliance gatekeeper and guarantor for commercial exports under agreed operational terms.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
– Minimum 5 years’ experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding.
– Valid Class B Driver’s Licence and a Professional Driving Permit (PRDP).
– Must hold an active Access Code to the BURS Customs System.
– In-depth knowledge of Botswana customs regulations, procedures, and Harmonised System (HS) codes.
– Proven ability to troubleshoot complex clearance issues, logistics disruptions, and interpret regulatory frameworks.
– Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
