The Jindal Mmamabula Energy Project is a strategic national asset that will contribute significantly to Botswana’s energy security and economic development. Such a project requires a proactive and integrated security approach that goes beyond traditional guarding services.
My view is that security should be positioned as a business enabler through the protection of people, assets, information, infrastructure, and operational continuity. Key focus areas should include critical infrastructure protection, access control management, contractor and personnel vetting, intelligence-led security operations, asset protection, emergency preparedness, and strong collaboration with law enforcement agencies and local communities.
As the project progresses from development to operational stages, security risks will evolve and may include theft, sabotage, illegal mining activities, fuel losses, insider threats, protests, and occupational security risks. A robust risk-based security framework supported by technology, trained personnel, and continuous risk assessment will therefore be essential.
I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to a project of this magnitude and to support Jindal Energy Botswana in establishing a world-class security function aligned with international best practices while supporting Botswana’s development aspirations.
