Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the procurement team and ensure its effective contribution to business growth.
- Ensure that departmental policies, processes, and operating procedures deliver efficiency, mitigate risk, and carve a sustainable business advantage.
- Coordinate strategic buy-ins and assess their effectiveness in assisting the business to gain a competitive advantage.
- Plan and review themed sales promotions to ensure optimum sales and gross profit opportunities.
- Source for suited suppliers, product ranges, and competitive trading terms to strengthen the company’s product mix, market position, and competitiveness.
- Negotiate, and monitor, agreements with suppliers on advertising fees and other incentives that suppliers offer to the company.
- Review management reports to assess business performance and take timely corrective actions.
- Plan quarterly supplier reviews and develop corresponding action plans to enhance business performance.
- Represent the department at quarterly Operations Board meetings and follow-through on raised action items.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business management, retail management, procurement and logistics, marketing, economics, or any related field. Relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage.
- At least ten (10) years’ work experience in a procurement function within an FMCG business environment. At least five (5) years thereof should have been at a senior management level.
- A detailed and practical understanding of FMCG products and services and all product categories.
- Practical competence in managing buying teams, category management, sales promotions, handling negotiations with suppliers, effective pricing and gross profit management, and inventory management.
- Conversant with market trends and able to capitalize on the trends to enhance business opportunities.
- Proficient in assessing the performance of product categories/segments and able to spot business opportunities.
- Be able to build and nurture long-term relationships with suppliers (and other stakeholders) for the benefit of the business.
- Strong financial management abilities, effective handling of pricing strategies and resolving instances of dead stocks.
- Effective coordination of diverse teams that cuts across staff levels, suppliers, branches, and service providers.
- Be open to learning new computer systems and ensure effective data management and analytics.
- Possession of a Class B driver’s license.
