Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of University and Faculty strategies, policies, plans and procedures, and lead implementation at School level.
  • Manage the School’s operational performance against established goals and objectives identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective action as needed.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversee the development, review, and enhancement of academic programmes to ensure alignment with industry standards, accreditation requirements, and student needs.
  • Foster a supportive environment for research and scholarship, encouraging School to pursue external funding, publish scholarly works, and engage in collaborative research projects.
  • Champion student success initiatives, including recruitment, retention, and graduation efforts.
  • Address student concerns and grievances promptly, working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to ensure a positive student experience.
  • Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies, alumni, and community organizations.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, outreach, and service that benefit both the school and the broader community.
  • Oversee systems and processes that ensure excellent customer service.
  • Resolve customer queries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Identify and address areas of improvement for customer and stakeholder experience.
  • Participate in recruitment and ensure retention and development of a diverse team.
  • Support faculty professional development activities, including mentoring, training, and opportunities for advancement.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement to employees under supervision.
  • Engage and discipline staff in accordance with defined human resource management policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to the development and management of the faculty budget.
  • Develop and manage School budget.
  • Recommend expenditure in accordance with delegated limits.
  • Develop and manage School risk register with clear mitigation strategies.
  • Support internal and external unit level audits as per the University policy.
  • Ensure unit compliance to legislative and statutory requirements.

Requirements

  • A PhD/Doctorate in relevant discipline is required;
  • A relevant Master’s degree or Fellowship in area of discipline is mandatory;
  • Must be at the rank of Associate Professor or higher;
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in teaching, research, and governance and social engagement experience in a higher institution is required;
  • An appropriate professional qualification (where appropriate).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, preferably in an academic administrative role;
  • Strong understanding of academic programme development, accreditation processes, and quality assurance standards;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills;
  • Proven ability to foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Sound financial management skills and experience in budget planning and resource allocation;
  • Commitment to shared governance, academic freedom, and ethical conduct;
  • Visionary leadership with a track record of strategic planning and execution.
