Botswana Harvard Health Partnership (BHP) is a collaborative research and training initiative between the government of Botswana and the Harvard School of Public Health. BHP is dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS and related public health challenges through collaborative research, education and capacity building. We seek hands on, results driven individual, with good interpersonal skills to join our Laboratory on the following position: Laboratory Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains competency in efficient and accurate data entry.
  • Ensure accurate specimen handling and documentation.
  • Maintains competency in specimen sorting and demographic checking.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory information management system relevant to specimen receiving, processing and inventory.
  • Follows up on and resolves internal data and specimen related queries.
  • Carries out primary check of specimens, ensuring request form details correspond with received specimens before processing and storage.
  • Capture and verify request form details in the laboratory information management system.
  • Completes auditing processes for specialist visits and other scheduled audits.
  • Clean and reconcile data to ensure records are accurate and free from duplication.
  • Occasionally perform point of care testing at clinical sites (e.g. GeneXpert testing) as required.

Requirements

  • Certificate/ Diploma in Health Care Auxiliary or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proactive problem solving and adaptability.
