- MAINTENANCE ENGINEER (MECHANICAL XI & ELECTRICAL X1) (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
Job Summary:
To manage, co-ordinate and execute engineering maintenance and project activities in the designated sections to ensure the achievement of set business objectives.
Key Activities:
- Manages the implementation of Engineering quality assurance programme in accordance with set governance protocols/principles.
- Analyses the divisional area’s financial needs to develop a budget and ensures sufficient financial resources to meet business needs.
- Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters.
- Contributes towards the development of the departmental Maintenance strategies, standards, systems, and practices.
- Interprets, co-ordinates and optimises the Asset Management and Maintenance strategy execution through the implementation of maintenance plan and develops necessary systems/standards.
- Coordinates the implementation of a short/medium term engineering plan aligned to the Mine Strategic Plan in conjunction with the relevant departments; disseminates and translates the short/medium term plan into action plans to achieve targets and goals.
- Develops, reviews, and schedules the short/medium term maintenance, project and developmental requirements for the section, taking cognisance of the company policies/ procedures, statutory requirements and ensures compliance by setting performance standards/requirements and objectives based on the mine’s overall plan and analysing trends on equipment performance.
- Manages and controls the engineering function at sectional level to meet set targets, taking cognisance of industry best practice by:
- developing and revising sectional procedures.
- Assessing operational performance (e.g., plant throughputs, machine availability) in relation to the Mine’s overall goal for the section; researching and evaluating maintenance processes.
- Implementing changes as required e.g., new/ improved technology requirements
- Coordinates the implementation of the Asset Management strategy, standards, policies, and practices by implementing asset management improvement programme, interpreting the Asset Management strategy, and drawing the necessary action plans.
- Identifies and corrects deviations from required performance through analysing trends and data, assessing and/or developing possible solutions/options, taking cognisance of available resources and constraints, recommending, and ensuring implementation of remedial actions as required.
- Manages compliance to performance standards, statutory and legal requirements for equipment, taking cognisance of health, safety, environmental and technical by:
- Performing life cycle costing and equipment criticality classification exercises to assess best practice for maintenance approaches, replacement, inventory control, service, repair and reconditioning as well as the decommissioning and disposal standards.
- Integrating new equipment into existing infrastructures.
- Analysing equipment performance to identify maintenance related problems and devising remedial solutions.
- Ensuring that upgrades and enhancements of equipment/machinery are performed to ensure optimal effectiveness.
- Overseeing the programming, configuration/ calibration, commissioning, and optimisation exercises as appropriate.
- Performing over-inspections, faultfinding and diagnosis on equipment and making remedial plans or recommendations as appropriate.
- Initiates, monitors and controls short, medium and long term projects to ensure attainment of desired results.
- Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/ requirements.
- Manages and coordinates the implementation of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility.
- Manages key effectiveness areas of subordinates by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary.
- Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance.
- Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance.
- Manages the implementation of the talent management initiatives in area of responsibility by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, succession, training and development plans.

- 7 years post qualification Eng. experience in a heavy engineering environment including EIT programme.
- Professional Engineer Registration.
- Registration with Botswana Engineers’ Registration Board
- Knowledge of SHE Management System ISO 45001: 2018 and ISO 14001:2015.
