The applicant must possess a Blue Card, be registered with BHPC and must have a minimum of 2+ Years’ post qualification experience in a clinical or Hospital setting and must be a citizen of Botswana.

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing therapeutic programs to help individuals of all ages regain, develop, or maintain the skills necessary for independent living and participation in meaningful activities. Occupational Therapists work with patients to overcome physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges that impair their ability to engage in daily tasks and occupations.

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate patients’ physical, cognitive, and psychosocial functioning, as well as their occupational performance and participation in daily life activities
– Develop individualized treatment plans that address the specific needs, goals, and interests of each patient
– Implement a variety of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as task-oriented training, adaptive equipment recommendations, and environmental modifications
– Collaborate with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to set realistic and measurable goals, and to monitor and adjust treatment plans as needed
– Provide education and training to patients, caregivers, and other team members on the use of assistive devices, compensatory strategies, and self-management techniques
– Document patient progress, treatment outcomes, and discharge planning in accordance with professional and organizational standards
– Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to coordinate care and ensure a comprehensive, patient-centered approach
– Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
– Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with the latest evidence-based practices and technological advancements in the field of occupational therapy
– Advocate for the role of occupational therapy in promoting health, well-being, and independent living within the community

Required Qualifications

– Master’s or doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
– Current licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapist in the applicable state(s)
– Demonstrated clinical experience in evaluating and treating a diverse range of patient populations and diagnoses
– Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning skills
– Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with the capacity to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
– Proficient in the use of therapeutic equipment, assistive devices, and documentation software
– Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development

Preferred Qualifications

– Specialization or advanced training in a particular area of occupational therapy (e.g., pediatrics, mental health, rehabilitation)
– Experience in program development, quality assurance, or supervision of occupational therapy staff
– Involvement in professional organizations or research initiatives related to occupational therapy
– Fluency in multiple languages, reflecting the diverse patient population
