Medlane Day Hospital is expanding its Ophthalmology Centre of Excellence and invites applications from an experienced and highly skilled Ophthalmologist (Vitreoretinal Surgeon) to join our multidisciplinary specialist team in Gaborone, Botswana.
The successful candidate must possess advanced training and extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases and demonstrate excellence in both clinical care and academic practice.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) registrable with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC).
  • Fellowship in Ophthalmology from a recognized international college.
  • Completed Fellowship or Subspecialty Training in Vitreoretinal Surgery from an internationally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years’ independent post fellowship experience in vitreoretinal surgery.
  • Proven expertise in the management of complex retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, macular disorders, retinal vascular diseases, ocular trauma and inherited retinal conditions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckling, membrane peeling, macular hole surgery, complex retinal detachment repair, silicone oil procedures and laser retinal surgery.
  • Extensive experience in intravitreal pharmacotherapy, retinal imaging interpretation, fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
  • Experience in establishing and leading retinal services, multidisciplinary collaboration and mentoring junior ophthalmologists.
  • Active participation in clinical research, teaching and continuous professional development and contribution in publications significant to prevention and treatment retinal diseases.
  • Membership or Fellowship of recognized international ophthalmic societies will be an added advantage.
