BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The Power Plant Operative Maintainer will be responsible for controlling, operating, and maintaining machinery to generate electricity. The successful candidate will also work with control boards to distribute power among generators and regulate the output of several generators and will also monitor instruments to maintain voltage and electricity flows from the plant to meet fluctuating consumer demand throughout the day.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Participating in or leads “safety talk” sessions as assigned at the beginning of each working day.
  • Adhering to the company SHEC rules and procedures throughout the working day and undertakes necessary maintenance remedial action in accordance with laid down company rules.
  • Reporting any SHEC incidents immediately, and provides evidence of incidents witnessed, during investigations.
  • Carrying out housekeeping in area of responsibility to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • Identifying mechanical and electrical related problems and makes a call to the maintenance team for corrective action.
  • Ensuring adherence to work schedule requirements, e.g., planned maintenance and inspection schedules.
  • Managing all daily operations according to required safety measures.
  • Maintaining record of all data from equipment such as operation, fuel consumed and all load bases.
  • Checking equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems.
  • Preparing and issuing safety documents to workers working around areas that need maintenance or repairs inside the power station.
  • Carrying statutory appointments and ensures compliance in area of responsibility.
  • Maintaining a daily record of all activities in the power plant for tracking and compliance purposes.
  • Working hand in hand with artisans in problem solving initiatives.
  • Performing other duties as may be defined by your manager.
  • Complying with Company policies, procedures, standard operating practices, and Code of Conduct

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

  • Trade Test B in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years hands on relevant experience in a similar environment

Thorough knowledge of power generating systems, transformers, generators, load banks.
