VACANCY: PRINCIPAL EDUCATION OFFICER I – GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING, D2 X1 DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL SUPPORT SERVICES

SALARY: D2 (P 305,664 – P 337,068 per annum)
LEAVE: 30 Working Days Per Annum

QUALIFICATION:
Applicants must have at least a Degree in Guidance and Counselling. A Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum often (10) years of post-qualification, teaching experience, and two (2) of which should have been at D3 as Principal Education Officer II in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To monitor and evaluate policies that guide the implementation of the Guidance and counselling program in schools, determining interventions appropriate to prevalent issues.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Coordinate the formulation of career guidance programmes for different levels (primary, Junior Secondary or Senior Secondary School) based on set policies and procedures.
- Initiates the review of government policy on guidance and counselling.
- Develop and implement in-service programmes and packages for Guidance Teachers.
- Support career guidance and counselling for learners and act as a referral back -up for schools and out of school youth.
- Support the development of guidance curriculum in pre services training institution by being a member of various advisory bodies.
- Supervise the psychometric assessments of learners to support learner profiling and placement.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of guidance and counselling programs within schools and other services.
- Set standards for the delivery of a holistic guidance and counselling programme to influence relevant policies.
- Supervise learner support officers at regional level
- Undertake any other related duties as may be assigned by management to meet the exigencies of the service.
